Sermon Notes

Psalm 23 - Week 1

We’re honored to kick off our new sermon series, Pain to Purpose, with special guest Davey Blackburn. Davey is a pastor, speaker, and founder of Nothing is Wasted Ministries. After losing his wife Amanda in a tragic 2015 event, Davey experienced God's restoration in a deeply personal way. Now, through his story, ministry, and podcast, he helps others find purpose in pain.

This week’s message focuses on Psalm 23, a passage that speaks deeply to those walking through difficult seasons. Verse 4 reminds us, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” God doesn’t always remove the valley—but He never leaves us in it alone.

Davey will walk us through three truths from this powerful psalm:

 1. He’s Making You Dangerous – “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”

 2. He’s Increasing Your Capacity – “You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”

 3. He’s Mixing the Ingredients – “All things work together for good…” (Romans 8:28)

Let this message challenge your understanding of God’s comfort, provision, and purpose. He restores your soul, walks with you in the shadows, and turns even your pain into something powerful.
